How does my skin turn brown and why are you all about exfoliation and waxing 24-48 hours prior to a tan and not the same day?

I get this question asked a lot! 👇

Sunless tan, also known as fake tan and self-tanner, contains a colour additive called dihydroxyacetone (DHA) that reacts with the amino acids in the top layer of the skin to produce a brown colour. When DHA is applied to the skin, it causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the DEAD skin cells on the surface of the skin. This reaction produces a brown pigment called melanoidins, which gives the skin a natural-looking tan. The reaction takes place without damaging the skin, and the colour fades as the dead skin cells are naturally sloughed off or when you exfoliate your skin.

 

FACT: Without dead skin cells, your skin can not perform optimally.  This is what keeps your results “brown.” STOP shaving and exfoliating right before a sunless application. Allow time for the most flawless results. 

 

Our Future Famous foams will ensure a streak-free result and wI’ll not transfer onto clothes or sheets (once dry.) It is Fragrance free with odour eliminating technology for a no fake tan smell.

How to get ready for your sunless tan:

1. For optimal results, please wax or shave & exfoliate body 24-48 hours prior to applying sunless tan.
2. 15 minutes prior to application. Pre-moisturise your hands, feet, knees and elbows. Pump the foam onto a tanning mitt and use circular motions to blend into body. Use on clean skin which is free from perfume or deodorant.
3. Wait to shower for desired result; 2 hours for a bronze result, 3+ hours for darkest result. 
4. Shower with lukewarm water only until water runs clear (express tan way only) pat dry with a towel, do not rub with towel. If you’re leaving your tan on for 10 hours +, you may have a regular shower with body wash. Full development of tan will be complete within 18 hours of application. 

When left on longer, you’ll notice that minimal colour washes off. It’s magic 🪄
